West (W) Zone in Vastu: The Zone of Gains and Profits

The water zone is the area of gains. It governs material gains or profits. Whatever living we earn, this zone contributes the energy to it. The power and energy to fulfil desires, The power to manifest these desires is situated in the west.

This is the reason when we visit any religious place, especially temples, there we stand and pray facing the Western direction. The idols of gods and goddesses are placed in the West because in any enclosed space the West has the energy fields which connect us to material gains. In vastu shastra, it has been mentioned that this zone is one of food.

As I have mentioned earlier, the written vastu scriptures are meant to promote this knowledge in the masses. This published knowledge is common knowledge for all, and was written, keeping the masses in mind. 

In India, knowledge has been present in two forms - in the written form, and oral (non-written form). This oral knowledge has passed down from teacher to student and so on. Till date, there are many branches of knowledge, some of it scriptural, which have to be codified.

In my opinion, it is not even possible to write upon these subjects or these branches of oral knowledge. The reason being, that 99% of this kind of knowledge is highly esoteric and has little to do with the physical realm of living. This realm of this oral knowledge does not pertain to the materialistic or physical world, so it is not written.

These are realms of wisdom, coming forth from experience and awareness. Experience is everything - the method of gaining experience varies from guru. On the basis of experiences, a guru  imparts further wisdom.

To fulfill all the necessities for survival, all our three Koshas are involved in karma, each moment. The physical body requires food for its survival. In a similar way, the energy body has its own needs and so does the Mind body. Fulfilment of the above mentioned needs is governed by the Western zone.

For example, if we think of food; food is essential for the body, but the taste of the food is felt through the five senses - it is the food for the energy for the Energy body. If it is in accordance with the mind’s requirements (pleasing, well laid out, well cooked, good aroma), then it becomes a feast for the mind body.

Similarly, this zone is helpful in fulfilling all desires of life. If this zone is extended, the gains will not increase; rather the expectation for gain will increase, because fulfillment comes from balance. These enhanced expectations will not be met.

If this  zone is imbalanced on account of being ‘cut’ or small, desires will not be fulfilled as per wishes. The results will be below expectations, and your efforts will go to waste. Fulfillment of wishes and completion lies in the balanced state where the Mind body, Energy body and Physical body-all are content; that paves the way for happiness.

In another way, this Western zone is also related to friends - if it is small, then friends will be deceitful. However, if this zone is enlarged, there will be great expectations from friends. Excessive expectation can spoil relations.

If there is a toilet made in this zone, there will be no gains. If there is a fire element here, the gains will be more; they will not get burnt (since fire destroys space; with the knowledge of elemental-balancing it will be clear how fire enhances gains in this zone).

If there is a bedroom here, then profits will flow in easily; a drawing room here will make all meetings fruitful. In this way, this zone’s energy will influence whatever work or activities or functioning in life we undertake in this zone.

If we pay attention, then the preceding zone is the area of study (vidya abhyas), and the next one is of detoxification. So, these two aspects (knowledge and detoxification), together, constitute whatever we gain in life; so long there is ignorance and suffocation, gains will not accrue to us. 

So, you can ensure fulfilment of your desires by balancing the West zone.
