How Did Lord Ganesha Get an Elephant Head? The Story Behind His Birth
The significance of Ganesh Chaturthi is closely connected with the traditional story of Lord Ganesha's birth.
According to the popular legend, Goddess Parvati created a young boy from the sandalwood paste from her body and brought him to life. She appointed him as her gatekeeper and instructed him not to allow anyone to enter while she was bathing.
Soon after, Lord Shiva arrived. Ganesha did not recognize him and, following his mother's instructions, stopped him from entering.
Lord Shiva explained who he was, but Ganesha remained determined to follow his mother's command. The situation eventually led to a fierce confrontation, during which Lord Shiva severed Ganesha's head.
When Goddess Parvati learned what had happened, she was deeply distressed and demanded that her son be brought back to life.
