King Sagara’s 60,000 sons were reduced to ashes due to Sage Kapila’s curse, leaving their souls without liberation. To free his ancestors, King Bhagiratha performed severe penance and deep meditation for many years.

Pleased by his devotion, Lord Brahma granted permission for Maa Ganga to descend to Earth. However, her immense celestial force was so powerful that Earth could not withstand it.
